Nahda Lakemba: exciting fortnightly events
Nahda Lakemba is the main regular Nahda gathering. This is where scores of young brothers come together to hear a few short talks on various Islamic topics before the floor is opened to discussions in groups and as a collective whole, before a bit of food and a chance to converse and get to know other brothers of a similar age and of similar interests.
This gathering has been running for two years and has been extremely beneficial with the aid of Allah SWT. The knowledge many have gained from it has been clear from the feedback we have recieved, and the sense of brotherhood it has engendered among many young brohters is indicative of the need for such regular gatherings to be held that bring young Muslims together. You can access a complete database of our published summaries here.
We invite all brothers, young and old, to attend these gatherings, either to learn, or to contribute.
Venue: The Canterbury Community Center, Railway Parade, Lakemba.
When: Every second Saturday night.
What: Talks by young and older brothers, summary notes, discussion circles, food and brotherhood.
Ansar: The Nahda sisters’ initiative
Ansar is the sisters’ section of the Nahda youth movement. It has been operative since late 2007 but was also launched publically in early 2009. Just like their counterparts from Nahda, the Ansar sisters hold regular gatherings for sisters and periodical events to grow the unity between sisters of our community.

Tajweed classes
Nahda will soon be launching its first Tajweed classes. Because this will be a prominent and notable Nahda effort, we have created a separate page for it on our website where details about the classes can be obtained and interest expressed for those wanting to perfect the methodology of recitation of the Qur’an.

Ramadhan Iftars
Each Ramadhan, Nahda holds a large public iftar for young and old brothers from the Muslim community of Sydney. For each of the last two years, the iftar has been attended by 130 people (or more) and is a fixture in the Nahda calender that both our regular attendees and friends in the community look forward to.

Qiyam ul Layls and I’tikaafs
Along with our Iftar, for the first time in 2008 we endeavoured to orgainse a collective Qiyam ul Layl for the Muslim youth. Attended by some fourty brothers, this event, held on the 29th night of Ramadhan, was an extremely sucessful one, bringing together many brothers for the sake of remember and worshipping Allah. Further to this, Nahda holds Qiyaams at other times of the year, and this is something we will be working on, to ensure that during each holiday session (unis and schools) we organise such nights of worship to increase the youth in their closeness to Allah (SWT).
BBQs and Sports days
Nahda’s most light-hearted activity is its BBQ Sports day; also held most holidays, this brings together well over 100 young brothers each time in a spirit of brotherhood and for the sake of getting to know other brothers with similar interests. On these days, sports are followed by lunch, whereafter the youth are given talks in the park by speakers to motivate them to work for the deen and to gain knowledge thereof.
