The story of Prophet Nuh (AS)
The story of Prophet Nuh (AS)
Nahda Crew Gathering Summary
Week 17 – Sat 5 – July 2008.
Nuh (pbuh) was born in a town near the ancient city of Mesopotamia, which in present day is Iraq. A farming town that was known for its idol worshiping. They had been worshipping these idols for many years and for this reason…
Nuh (AS) was given a message, a warning from Allah (swt) that if his people did not cease worshipping these false gods, that he would send down a terrible punishment. Nuh didn’t waste a second, he (pbuh) ran to his people and started to preach oneness of Allah. Allah (swt) mentions in the Quran how Nuh addressed his people.
“O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you. I am asking you, serve Allah and keep your duty unto Him and obey me. That He may forgive you and somewhat of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Lo! the term of Allah, when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but knew.” [chapter71]
Noah was the only intellectual not caught in the whirlpool of Idol Worshipping.
For many generations Noah’s people had been worshipping statues that they called gods. They believed that these gods would bring them good, protect them from evil and provide all their needs.
The funny thing is that originally these statues represented good people who had actually lived among them. After their deaths, statues of them were erected to keep their memories alive. After sometime, however, people began to worship these statues. Later generations did not even know why they had been erected; they only knew their parents had prayed to them. So they worshipped them for the sake of it, or we know it as blind faith. That is how idol worshipping developed.
Allah (swt) sent Noah to guide his people. Noah was an excellent speaker and a very patient man. And I mean patient, in fact ‘patient’ is an understatement, and you’ll soon know why I say this…He pointed out to his people the mysteries of life and the wonders of the universe. He’d prove to them rationally how Allah (swt) is the Creator of everything and that He (swt) alone should be worshipped & not to associate any partners with Allah.
The people would listen to him in silence. His words were a shock to their minds, they’ve never heard this type of call before! Some accepted while most rejected the call to Islam.
After Nuh preached constantly to his people they were divided into two groups. The people who embraced Islam were the weak, the poor, and previously miserable. As for the rich, the strong, and the rulers, they kept rejecting his call. Instead, they started their war of words against Noah. Subhan Allah how Allah tests all the Prophets & Messengers. We know from the seerah that the Prophet Mohammed (saw) also went through a lot of these same tests that Noah would soon face.
The rulers had thought at first that Noah’s call would soon fade on its own. When they found that his call attracted the poor, the helpless and common laborers, they started to verbally attack and taunt him: they use to try and harass him ‘You are only followed by the poor, and the worthless.’ They used to shout.
Nuh (as) kept preaching to the polytheists, but these guys were stubborn, they just would not give in; the arguments between the disbelievers and Noah became prolonged. When all the refutations of the disbelievers collapsed and they had no more to say, they began to be rude and insult Allah’s prophet. Nuh’s responded beautifully by saying “O my people! There is no error in me, but I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Alamin. I convey unto you the Messages of my Lord and give sincere advice to you. And I know from Allah what you know not.” (CH 7:61-62 Quran)
Noah continued appealing to his people to believe in Allah hour after hour, day after day, year after year. Whenever he urged them to ask Allah to forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears and became too proud to listen to the truth. Like I said they were a very stubborn nation! They would actually put their fingers in their ears so they didn’t get affected by what he had to say.
Now remember when I was telling you how patient Prophet Noah was? Noah (as) continued to call his people to believe in Allah for nine hundred & fifty years. Allah the Almighty said: Indeed We sent Noah to his people and he stayed among them a thousand years less fifty years (inviting them to believe in the Oneness of Allah and discard the false gods and other deities). (Ch 29:14 Quran)
Generation after generation would pass & they all rejected except a handful. Nuh saw that the number of believers was not increasing, while that of the disbelievers was.
Then the news came to Nuh when Allah revealed to him that no others would believe. Imagine hearing that! You’ve been preaching to these people day & night your entire life for 950yrs and then Allah (swt) Himself telling you that no one else is going to believe! That’s it! In other words it’s over! Nuh was distraught, to the point where he prayed to Allah that the disbelievers be destroyed. He said: “My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth. If you leave them, they will mislead Your slaves and they will give birth to none but wicked disbelievers.” (Ch 71:27 Quran)
Now we all know what happens when a Prophet makes Dua to Allah right?……. Allah accepted Noah’s prayer. The case was closed, and He (swt) passed His judgment on the disbelievers in the form of a flood. He’s going to drown them all! Allah ordered Nuh to build an ark with His knowledge and instructions and with the help of angels. He (swt) commanded: “And construct the ship under Our Eyes and with Our Inspiration and address Me not on behalf of those who did wrong; they are surely to be drowned.” (Ch 11:37 Quran)
Nuh chose a place outside the city, far from the sea. He collected wood and tools and began to build the ark day and night. The people’s mockery continued: “O Noah! Does carpentry appeal to you more than prophethood? Why are you building an ark so far from the sea? Are you going to drag it to the water or is the wind going to carry it for you?” Nuh never asked questions, he listened to Allah and obeyed, he just started building this massive boat.
The ship was finally constructed, and Noah sat waiting for Allah’s command. Allah revealed to him that when water miraculously gushes forth from the oven at Noah’s house and the earth, that would be the sign of the start of the flood, and the sign for Noah to act.
The terrible day arrived when the oven at Noah’s house overflowed. Noah knew this was it, this was the sign, he hurried to open the ark and summon the believers. He also took with him a pair, male and female, of every type of animal, bird and insect as instructed by Allah (swt). Now the disbelievers here were freaking out! Seeing Nuh taking all these animals pair by pair onto the ship, they thought he going was nuts! What is he going to do with the animals?” they’d say.
All the believers boarded the ship & all the animals along with Nuh himself. The scholars hold different opinions on the number of those who were with Noah on the ship. Ibn Abbas stated that there were 80 believers while Ka ab al Ahbar held that there were 72 believers. Others claimed that there were 10 believers with Noah. Anyway once they had all boarded Allah (swt) fulfilled his promise.
Water started to rise from the cracks in the earth; there was not a crack from which water did not rise. Rain poured from the sky in quantities never seen before on earth. Water continued pouring from the sky rising from the cracks; hour after hour the level rose. The seas and waves invaded the land. The interior of the earth moved in a strange way, and the ocean floors lifted suddenly, flooding the dry land. For the first time the entire earth was submerged under water. Everyone that was not on the Ark was taken under and killed. Allahu akbar.
Allah says: “It was said: “O Earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold (your rain).” The water was diminished (made to subside) and the Decree (of Allah) was fulfilled (the destruction of the people of Noah). And it (the ship) rested on Mount Judi, and it was said: “Away with the people who are Zalimeen (polytheists, and wrongdoing)!” [11:44]
After that magnificent event, Allah the Almighty ordered calm to return to earth, the water retreated, and the dry land shone once again in the rays of the sun. The flood had cleansed the earth of the disbelievers and polytheists. There was literally no one left on earth but these handful of believers & and a whole lot of animals!
Noah released the birds, and all the animals which scattered over the earth. After that the believers disembarked. Noah put his forehead to the ground in prostration. There was a day of fasting in thanks to Allah.
With the issue of the divine command, calm returned to earth, the water retreated, and the dry land shone once again in the rays of the sun. The flood had cleansed the earth of the disbeliveers and polytheists. However, Allah did not grant any children to those of the believers who were saved on the Ark, except to Noah’s three other sons. Allah says “And We made only his offspring to endure/prosper on earth” [37:77].
The Quran draws the curtain on Noah’s story. We do not know how his affairs with his people continued. All we know or can ascertain is that on his deathbed he requested his son to worship Allah alone, Noah then passed away.
Abdullah Ibn Amru Ibn Alas narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “When the death of the Messenger of Allah Noah approached, he admonished his sons: ‘Indeed I would give you far reaching advice, commanding you to do 2 things, and warning you against doing 2 things as well. I charge you to believe that there is no god but Allah and that if the seven heavens and the seven earths were put on one side of a scale and the words “there is no god but Allah” were put on the other, the latter would outweigh the former. I warn you against associating partners with Allah and against pride.” (Sahih al Bukhari)
Some traditions said that his grave is in the Sacred Mosque in Mecca, while others said that he was buried in Baalabak, a city in Iraq. But some of the lessons we can take from the Prophet Noah is to have full trust in Allah – Tawakul (from last Nahda night), Also never give up hope and to always carry the Word of Allah no matter what difficulty we face, and lastly but not least… Patience! This man preached for 950yrs! I’m sure we can all learn a bit of patience from him inshallah & push us to keep giving dawah no matter how old we get.

I use the Internet, I use word of mouth from people I trust, and I MIGHT use resources I see on TV. I tend to "over-research" sometimes, but my family has always had good trips when the trips are planned carefully.

You can’t. Teen drivers’ car insurance is very expensive, because teens have the highest accident rate of all drivers. Your rate will be high until you hit 25, actually, on most policies.

Your horse is unbalanced – she may have a bad back, move badly due to fear/nerves/poor schooling or you may be a poor rider I don’t know. If she learns to carry herself better she won’t pull her shoes of, but without watching you ride I couldn’t guess at the cause. Boots etc are just ‘a plaster on a festering sore’ – they won’t fix it

Your school will detect the activity and block your home IP address. They may also add it to a black list distributed to other schools and companies. It is also against the terms of service of your ISP to put a server up at your home in most cases. So if they figure it out they could shut down your access. Now go figure how you are going to explain to your parents why their cable company cut them off.

well if you want to be a designer then sure go for it!!!!! But it depends. if you get a sewing machine it may cost from $50-$300. But you can get some en expensive sewing machines. I mean having a sewing machine is nice because of how much faster it is rather then sewing the clothes by hand. It really depends on how much the sewing machine is and how much you plan on doing it if your going to make a bussiness sure. I would suggest doing it by hand first then once you feel your ready you can use a sewing machine. What i’m saying is try doing by hand then once you feel that you like it well enough that you might want to do it and make money then thats ok too.
